Djamaga Music:Songs from the South Coast

Local Music

Back in 2020, First Nations songwriters were invited to record an original song for a unique compilation album. The songs were recorded at Umbarra Cultural Centre near Wallaga Lake, owned by Merrimans Local Aboriginal Land Council. The result is DJAMAGA MUSIC - eight tracks ranging from rock and country, to hip hop and folk/pop. DJAMAGA means 'good' in the South Coast Language as spoken by Elders.

The songwriters featured on the album live across the Yuin Nation on the south east coast of Australia, from Dharawal country on the northern border, to Thaua country in the south.

South East Arts initiated the project and will continue supporting, promoting and building the capacity of First Nations creative artists across the south east NSW region.
